At the Food Manufacture 2021 industry awards last night, Carr’s Flour had a clean sweep, winning two categories; Ingredients Manufacturer of the Year and Manufacturing Site of the Year at Silloth.
The win of these awards for Carr’s Flour can be attributed to both strategic business decisions but also due to the huge commitment and dedication of all our staff during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
This was at a time when flour was in massive shortage, due unprecedented consumer demand, at a time when the country was in national lockdown. Only emergency workers and designated key workers were going to work but the entire Carr’s Flour team kept on milling, kept on producing flour. There were huge personal sacrifices being made by employees separated from their families, working incredibly long hours and adapting their jobs.
We expanded our retail flour, invested in automation and new packing lines. When the pandemic hit the demand for retail flour exploded, with the help of staff and innovative shift patterns, Carr’s were able to dramatically increase production. This was achieved whilst maintaining social distancing and additional hygiene requirements due to COVID-19. At the same time, we raised the profile and brand image of the company, to retailers where we had previously no presence. We also launched an online shop selling direct the full range of Carr’s Flour. When asked to nominate an individual, Ben Clark, Operations Director at Silloth, he could only say, “It was quite simply a full team effort. Without one part of the team, it would have fallen apart.”
These awards can be quite simply reflected back to the fantastic people at Carr’s Flour. Each and every person helped win these awards and it is wonderful to get the recognition they deserve from Food Manufacture.
